VERO BEACH — The search for a possibly missing snorkeler or diver has been called off.
Indian River County Fire Marshal Brian Nolan said the search concluded this afternoon without finding the possible swimmer.
“They did a complete search,” Nolan said, adding it is his sense that there might not have been anyone out in the water to begin with. Authorities were called out to the south end of Jaycee Beach Thursday morning regarding a possible missing snorkeler/diver in the ocean. A witness told authorities that he had been watching the swimmer for some time before losing sight of the person.
Marine and helicopter units from the Coast Guard, Vero Beach Police Department and other agencies were deployed in the search effort.
Nolan said no one has reported any friend or family member missing who planned to swim off Jaycee Beach.
