Edwin A. Greene Jr., 66, died May 7, 2010, at his home.

He was born in Providence, R.I., and was a seasonal resident of Vero Beach since 2008, coming from Washington, N.H.

He had been a pharmacy administrator for Fatima Hospital of North Providence, R.I. He served in the Army Reserves.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Frances A. Greene of Washington and Vero Beach; daughter, Melinda Bellows of Warwick, R.I.; son, Allen E. Greene of New York City; and one grandchild.

Services will be private.

Man shot after charging at deputy with small sword

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 29-year-old man who was shot by a deputy after charging at the officer with a small sword, was hospitalized late Friday, officials said. The unidentified man was taken by ambulance to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, Indian River County sheriff's spokesman Maj. Eric Flowers said. The deputy who fired the shot was not injured. The deputy was placed on paid administrative leave, which is protocol for police-involved shootings. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
