Roberta Tefft Fitzgeorge, 68, Vero Beach

Roberta Tefft Fitzgeorge, 68, died April 24, 2010, at her home.

She was born in Providence, R.I., and lived in Vero Beach for 28 years, coming from North Kingstown, R.I.

Before retiring, She owned and operated Roberta’s Hair Design in Vero Beach for 25 years. After retiring, she worked in real estate.

She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach Yacht Club and the Moorings Yacht Club.

Survivors include her sons, Stephen F. Tefft of Richmond, R.I., and Robert C. Tefft of Wyoming, R.I.; daughter, Sheila M. Tefft of Stuart; sister, Anne Spearman of Westerly, R.I.; and one grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold James Fitzgeorge.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. April 29 at Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life. Man shot after charging at deputy with small sword

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 29-year-old man who was shot by a deputy after charging at the officer with a small sword, was hospitalized late Friday, officials said. The unidentified man was taken by ambulance to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, Indian River County sheriff's spokesman Maj. Eric Flowers said. The deputy who fired the shot was not injured. The deputy was placed on paid administrative leave, which is protocol for police-involved shootings.
