Merritt Harrison Taylor Jr., 87, died March 26, 2010, at Indian River Medical Center.
He was born in Philadelphia and lived in Vero Beach from 1973 to 1978, He returned to Vero Beach in 1998, coming from Fort Lauderdale.
He was a major in the Army, serving during World War II and Korean War. Before retirement, he was third generation president of the Philadelphia Suburban Transportation Co., aka, Red Arrow Lines. He was the proprietor of the Red Tailed Hawk in Vero Beach and breeder of champion dachshunds.
He graduated from Haverford School in Pennsylvania and attended the University of Pennsylvania.
Survivors include his daughter, Adele T. Ulrich of Lancaster, Pa.; son, Walter N. Allen Jr. of Santa Fe, N.M.; brother, David W. Taylor of Athens, Ga.; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Peter S. Taylor.

A private celebration of life is planned in Vero Beach.
