VERO BEACH — Police are investigating a bank robbery at the First Peoples Bank located at 4000 20th Street. The robbery took place sometime between 12:45 and 12:50 p.m. when a white male in his mid-to-late 20s presented a note to a bank teller demanding money.
The teller complied with the robber’s request, who then fled the bank on foot.
“He was in and out in less than a minute,” Lt. Matthew Monaco of the Vero Beach Police Department said.
No one was injured in the robbery, according to Lt. Monaco.
Though the robber did not make overt signs that he had a weapon, Lt. Monaco said there may have been a verbal threat to the teller if she did not comply.
The lieutenant said that there were very few people, if any, in the lobby at the time of the robbery.
The robber is described as a white male, approximately 6-feet tall. He was last seen wearing a gray sweater or sweatshirt with a zipper front, a white ball cap and blue jeans with white sneakers.
The bank was cordoned off and police scoured the area on foot, with police dogs and overhead by helicopter in search of the suspect.
