Jean Verdi, 83, Vero Beach

Jean Verdi, 83, died March 13, 2010, at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach.

He was born in Marseilles, France, and lived in Vero Beach for 15 years, coming from Maplewood, N.J. He was a veteran of the French army, serving as a sergeant. He was executive chef at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, N.J., for 34 years.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Maria Verdi of Vero Beach; son, Robert Verdi of New York City; daughter, Anna Verdi of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA/Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. April 10 at Hollywood Memorial Park, Union, N.J.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. ‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life. Man shot after charging at deputy with small sword

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 29-year-old man who was shot by a deputy after charging at the officer with a small sword, was hospitalized late Friday, officials said. The unidentified man was taken by ambulance to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, Indian River County sheriff's spokesman Maj. Eric Flowers said.
