Marguerite ‘Peggy’ Kolbe, 95, Vero Beach

Marguerite “Peggy” Kolbe, 95, died Jan. 29, 2010, at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach.

She was born in Charleroi, Pa., and lived in Vero Beach for three years, coming from Portland, Ore. She served in the Navy during World War II as an air traffic controller.

She was a professor of literature at the University of Pittsburgh.

Survivors include her nieces, Mary Beth Lucas, Carol Fritsch, Rossane Schillalies and Norma Wellen; and nephews, David Parks and Richard.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Kolbe.

Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA & Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

A memorial service will be at a later date.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. ‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life. Leisure Square rates adjusted after pool closure scare

VERO BEACH — It will cost more to participate in Leisure Square recreational activities, especially for users who live outside the city limits. The Vero Beach City Council at its Nov. 4 meeting unanimously agreed to a new fee structure at the facility, which includes a rate hike for certain room rentals and monthly memberships for non-city residents. The new fees — which go into effect Nov. 15 — were implemented after the council directed staff to explore methods to close the gap between Leisure Square expenditures and revenue after the board previously contemplated closing the facility’s financially draining pool.
