VERO BEACH — With some minor finishing touches still in the works, the grand opening for Humiston Park has been set for March 13.The city is working on the guest list for the $1 million project which will include the public, local dignitaries, businesses that have been affected by the undertaking and contractors and sub-contractors who completed the job.
“The work is 95 percent done,” said assistant city enginner Bill Messersmith. He added that some work needs to be done on a storm outfall pipe and once finished the equipment will be taken off the beach and final landscaping will be completed. All parking spaces along Easter Lily Lane are also open to the public. The project, which started in the summer, has been the victim of permitting delays, construction issues and the unseasonably cold weather since the start of the year.Messersmith said another beachside project nearing completion is the new median being installed on A1A between Tulip and Painted Bunting lanes. Workers are having to do some extra milling along median islands to clean up some sharp edges. Messersmith said the milling should take about four more days and then workers will need to apply some asphalt patches.
