Roberta C. Finnigan, 81, Vero Beach

Roberta C. Finnigan, 81, of Vero Beach died Jan. 3, 2010.

She was born in Bronx, N.Y., and lived in Vero Beach, coming from Fort Pierce and Levittown, N.Y.

She worked at New York Telephone for 35 years. She was an active member and officer for the Telephone Pioneers. Survivors include her husband, John Finnigan; daughter, Gilia Baber Peterson; son, Robert Baber; stepdaughters, Maureen Finnigan, Ellen Donnelly and Sheila Sweeney; stepsons, Jack Finnigan, Mark Finnigan and Kevin Finnigan; six grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA/Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

Services will be at a later date.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. ‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life. "He was well-liked by teammates and was extremely coachable. His coaches and teammates are taking it pretty hard," Sebastian River High School Athletic Director Jessica Upchurch said. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
