Stanley H. Rose, Jr., a resident of Vero Beach, died on Jan. 18 at the age of 90.
He was born in Philadelphia on Jan. 24, 1919 and attended schools in Switzerland and New York and graduated from Princeton University in 1941 with a degree in Chemical Engineering.
He was married to Katherine Hwoschinsky Rose and had been married for 67 years.
His entire professional career was with Union Carbide Corporation. He spent most of his career in Charleston, W.V. He served in several capacities at Union Carbide; however primarily he served as Director of Engineering for the Chemicals Company.
Active in the community, he served on the Board of the Charleston Area Medical Center and subsequently on the Hospital Foundation Board. He was President of the Arthritis Foundation of West Virginia. He served on the Board of the Sunrise Museum and the Boys Scout Council. He was President of the Edgewood Country Club and was the Senior Warden of the St. John’s Episcopal Church in Charleston. He was an Adjunct Professor at West Virginia University Graduate School of Engineering. He was a member of the Princeton Club in New York and Rotary Club of Charleston.
In retirement, he was a member of the Riomar Country Club in Vero Beach and served on its board. He was active with the Adult Literacy Services of the Indian River County. He remained active with Princeton University Alumni Club where he served as Treasurer of Vero Beach Chapter for many years.
He enjoyed playing golf, tennis and squash and was a skilled bridge player.
He is survived by his wife, his son Stanley H. Rose III, his daughter-in-law Karen L. Rose, and the two of their three children, Christopher and Whitney.
He had a beloved daughter, Frances Robertson Rose, who died in 1973 and granddaughter, Allison Frances Rose, who died in 2006.
He had a sister, Marjorie, who predeceased him.
