VERO BEACH — Vero’s First Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest, sponsored and emceed by local radio personality Rhett Palmer to benefit Dogs & Cats Forever, will be featured as part of the grant opening celebration of Vero Propane Refill Station 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7.
The timed contest begins at noon and offers a cash prize of $100 to the winner. The event is open to adults, 18 years of age and older, and requires advanced registration and a signed entry waiver. The $5 registration donation will benefit Dogs & Cats Forever, no-kill animal shelter dedicated to saving abused and abandoned animals, some of which will be on-site seeking loving, permanent homes.
Other free family fun festivities throughout the day include hot dogs and beverages, event t-shirts, a grilling demonstration by Tides Chef Scott Garrett, eye screenings by New Vision Eye Center, and a bounce house for the kids. The first 25 guests can get a free refill on their BBQ tank, and there are special prices all weekend for tank refills and exchanges.
Vero Propane is located at 475 US Highway 1 (corner of 4th Street) in Vero Beach.
To register for the contest, call John Garrett at (772) 794-5440.
