Canine Costume Parade to be held this Saturday in Vero Beach

VERO BEACH — Dogs For Life will host a ‘Canine Costume Parade,’ Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Off-Leash Dog Park signature from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday.

The park is located at 12th Street and 16th Avenue in Vero Beach and the parade will start at 4 p.m.  Past events have attracted more than 300 spectators and 75 dogs in costume.

The event is free to the public and will kick off a new expanded 4 1-2 acre Dog Park membership drive. Dogs For Life is a non-profit organization that trains hearing and mobility assistance dogs.

Man critical after being struck by vehicle Friday in Sebastian

SEBASTIAN — A 70-year-old Brevard County man was critically injured after being struck by a pickup truck while walking across U.S. 1 last week, fire rescue crews and sheriff's officials said. Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." The Vero Beach Lifeguard Association recently released its monthly report for the beaches at Jaycee Park, Humiston Park and South Beach Park. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
