Vero Beach — St. Edwards ran for 275 yards in the first half as every player on the roster received substantial playing time Friday night in posting a 42-0 drubbing of Coral Springs Academy.
“We really established the run in the first quarter,” said SES Coach Brad Fojtik. “The coaches found the holes in their defense and we picked them apart.”The Pirates scored 43 points in their exhibition against Palmer-Trinity last week, and are gathering momentum going into week two.
“We’ve been on the other side of these kinds of games before,” said Fojtik. “This same group of kids lost 17 games in a row in going from 2006 to 2008. This group of seniors put in the hard work this summer, and it’s their turn.”
Senior defensive end Jacob Fojtik had three tackles for a loss in the game, and his father and coach couldn’t have been happier for him. “He was out there jumping around like his old man used to,” the elder Fojtik said. “It was also great to watch some of our freshmen and second team kids out there executing and making plays.”
The Pirates play Shorecrest Prep at home next week.
