VERO BEACH — The weeks are winding down before Vero Beach celebrates its 90th birthday and organizers are finalizing the details.
“We can always use sponsors,” said City Clerk Tammy Vock, chairwoman of the celebration committee.
She estimates that the committee needs to raise about $1,000 more to be sure to cover the cost of the event.
“The city is not spending one dime,” on the festivities, Vock said, adding that the committee has already collected $30,000 or so through sponsorships.
The donated dollars have gone to purchasing commemorative posters that volunteers will be selling for $10 to benefit the Royal Palm Pointe Fountain.
The committee has also purchased t-shirts that will be sold for $10 each to raise money for the city’s parks and recreation department.
The 90th Anniversary Celebration will be held Friday, Oct. 16, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. primarily at the city’s Heritage Center and Pocahontas Park along 14th Avenue.
The last birthday the city celebrated was its 75th and included activities throughout the year.
Vock said that this year’s birthday bash would have more food vendors along with areas set up with history books and historic photos of Vero Beach from yesteryears.
“That’s going to be awesome,” Vock said.
Along with food and history booths, there will be live entertainment, including performances from Vero Beach resident Alexi Prieto, the David Letts Band, Guild on the Go, and the traveling troupe from the Vero Beach Theatre Guild.
Also performing will be the city’s gymnastic team, Old Barber Bridge, Jerry Chambers and the Party Dolls, and the Stringsations Quartet.
There will be face painting and dancing, along with tours of the Vero Beach Train Depot and an antique car show put on by the Antique Automobile Club of America.
