Ruth E. Livingston, 87, of Vero Beach, died Aug. 2, 2009, in Providence, R.I. She was born in San Diego, Calif., and lived in Vero Beach for 30 years, coming from Potomac, Md.
Before retirement, she worked as a real estate agent. She was a volunteer at the Vero Beach Museum of Art. She was instrumental in establishing the Crisis Pregnancy Center, now Care Net; and Holy Cross Catholic Church, where she was a member until her move to the West Side Racket Club in 2000. She then became an active member and contributor to St. John of the Cross Catholic Church. She was a founding member and officer of the Republican Women of the Treasure Coast. She was a 29-year member of the Indian River County Republican Committee and worked on many political campaigns; she helped with voter registration and worked on Republican Party fundraisers.
Before moving to Vero Beach, she was a long-time member of the Potomac Women’s Republican Club, worked as a White House volunteer and served as chairman of the Montgomery County, Md., Federation of Republican Women. She also was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Potomac and a supporter of the Florence Crittenden Home in Washington, D.C.
She was a graduate of Trinity College in Washington, D.C., as a political science major.
Survivors include her daughters, Joan Johnson, of Vero Beach, Janet Carney, of North Kingstown, R.I., and Jeanne Jacobs, of Tucson, Ariz.; sons, John Livingston III, of Newport News, Va., and James Livingston, of Vero Beach; brother, John Baker, of Naples; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John B. Livingston; and brothers, Lt. James A. Baker and Joseph Jay Baker.

A service will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 17 at Aycock Funeral Home in Fort Pierce, with Deacon Gene Hoch officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Fort Pierce. A reception will follow at Aycock Funeral Home in Fort Pierce.
