Jacqueline Barnett, 60, Vero Beach

Jacqueline Barnett, 60, died July 15, 2009, at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach. She was a member of Vero Beach Art Club. Survivors include her husband, Ron Barnett, of Vero Beach; son, Stuart Barnett, of Vero Beach; daughter, Stacey Miranda, of Sebastian; father, Lynn Loeffelholz, of Denton, Texas; mother, Nelda Loeffelholz, of Denton, Texas; brother, Michael McCauley, of Oklahoma; sister, Dawn Barnett, of Arkansas; and three grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to Humane Society Of Vero Beach, P.O. Box 644, Vero Beach, FL 32961. Services will be conducted at a later date in Oklahoma. Arrangements are by Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach.

Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." ‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life. "He was well-liked by teammates and was extremely coachable. His coaches and teammates are taking it pretty hard," Sebastian River High School Athletic Director Jessica Upchurch said. Teens found sleeping in car stolen out of Arkansas

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Three teenagers found fast asleep in a car reported stolen out of Arkansas were detained Monday. The juveniles said they drove the Honda Fit from Arkansas to south Florida to run away, reports show. One of the teens, a 16-year-old, said he and the other youths agreed to steal the vehicle, which belonged to the 16-year-old's grandmother, deputies said. The two other teens were 16 and 17 years old. All of the juveniles, each from Arkansas, were charged with grand theft auto. It was unclear if the youths were taken to a juvenile detention center.
