Deputies responded to the incident about 1:20 a.m. Saturday at the Vero Beach home, west of U.S. 1 and north of Turnpike Feeder Road. They spoke to a man at the home who told them two men with guns were kicking the side door trying to get in.

He told deputies one of the men, later identified as Parker, was his neighbor and the other, later identified as Kelnhofer, had been over his house before on several occasions, deputies said. He said Parker was carrying a large black rifle and Kelnhofer was carrying a handgun.

The man was talking to Parker and Kelnhofer from his window when he saw them walk into his shed, which is connected to his home. He told the two men to get off his property or he would shoot them, which caused them to run away, deputies said.

Deputies saw a large crack in the center of the side door at the home, caused by the two men kicking it in. A little later, deputies found both men one street over from the victim’s home.

Both men were taken to the county jail for booking.
