INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 23-year-old man suspected of pulling out a semi-automatic pistol and robbing another man of his cellphone, was arrested Monday, deputies said.
The man – identified as Anexcis Javvan Johnson – told deputies the victim gave him the phone, reports show.
Deputies arrested Johnson, of the 4700 block of Washington Terrace, Gifford, on charges of robbery with a weapon and carrying a concealed weapon. Johnson was being held Thursday at the Indian River County Jail on $155,000 bond.
Indian River County sheriff’s deputies responded to a robbery that happened about noon Monday in the 2200 block of south State Road A1A. Deputies spoke with the victim, who said he and his two co-workers were having lunch earlier when a man, identified as Johnson, approached them.
Johnson asked the men which of them spoke English. When the workers ignored him, Johnson pulled a black firearm from his waistband and placed it on the table, reports show.
Johnson then grabbed the victim’s black Samsung phone, worth $100, authorities said. The workers became scared and left the area.
Deputies spoke with the other two workers, who gave similar statements as the victim. Deputies located Johnson several hours later as he was walking at Bowline Drive and State Road A1A.
Johnson told deputies the cellphone in his pocket belonged to the victim. Deputies found the firearm in Johnson’s waistband.
Deputies arrested Johnson and took him to the county jail. Johnson has an arraignment at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 31, court records show.
