A homeowner was forced to open his safe and was then tied up during a home invasion robbery late last week, according to the Port St. Lucie Police Department. Authorities are now searching for two suspects who made off with cash and guns.
Police spokesman Master Sgt. Frank Sabol said police are seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspects but so far have no new leads. He said often home invasion robbers will target those known to have cash or drugs; in this case, no drugs were found. What isn’t so common is the victim being tied up, Sabol said.
The robbery occurred shortly before 3:30 a.m. Thursday, April 26, in the 1800 block of SW Millikin Avenue.
According to surveillance footage from the outside of the home, the suspects entered the house through the open garage. They are later seen fleeing the house on foot to an unknown vehicle.
The victim told police that he had been tied up with a shoelace and was able to free himself after the robbers left. He then went to a neighbor’s home and called police.
The suspects are described as black males. One suspect is approximately 5 feet, 6 inches tall weighing about 160 pounds. He had a goatee and was wearing a beanie style hat and long-sleeve pullover shirt. The other suspect is between 5 feet, 6 inches and 5 feet, 8 inches tall, weighing around 170 or 180 pounds. He was wearing a beanie style hat and a dark colored hoodie sweatshirt.
Police said the suspects made off with a large amount of cash, two firearms – a Luger 9mm pistol and a Maverick 12 gauge shotgun with a tactical stock attachment – and a wallet with the victim’s debit and credit cards, and driver’s license.
Also taken was the victim’s cellphone, sunglasses and earbuds, all of which were later recovered.
