The Love of Literacy Luncheon will take place at 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 14, at Bent Pine Golf Club, 6001 Clubhouse Dr., Vero Beach. This event benefits Literacy Services of Indian River County and features acclaimed author Colleen McKeegan as a guest speaker. The Indian River Symphonic Association will host the Brevard Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Christopher Confessore and featuring organ soloist Andrew Galuska. Ballet enthusiasts are in for a treat this weekend when Ballet Vero Beach presents “Latines,” a program featuring three world premieres exclusively by Latin choreographers. Included in the program is “Before Sunrise” choreographed by Yanis Eric Pikieris and set to music by Gabriel Guilar; Chloe Watson’s dance inspired by family dinner with her grandfather and set to music by Louis Prima, Herb Alpert and The Gypsy Kings; and company’s ballet master and principal dancer Camilo A. Rodriguez debut of a piece set to music by Eric Satie. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 14, and 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center, 1707 16th St. Tickets are $10 to $85. Celebrating over a century of conservation, the Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge Anniversary Celebration weekend kicks off with a Fireside Chat at 7 p.m. Friday, March 14, featuring Joe Wiegand as Theodore Roosevelt at the Heritage Center, 2140 14th Ave., Vero Beach. Tickets are $50. The celebration continues Saturday, March 15, with a Meet & Greet with Roosevelt at the Environmental Learning Center, 255 Live Oak Dr., Vero Beach. There will be hands-on exhibits, and live music with free admission. There will also be a Sunset Wine & Cheese Cruise from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 15. Tickets are $75, with tips optional. One of the region’s most anticipated events, the Indian River County Firefighters’ Fair, will run March 14-23 at the Indian River County Fairgrounds, 7955 58th Ave., Vero Beach. This exciting fair includes live entertainment, carnival rides, firefighter demonstrations, and 4-H Livestock and Horticulture competitions. The fair raises money for the burn fund and scholarships.
