Recognition of educational pioneers who changed the future

Joe Idlette, Jr., Lawrence Trapp, Godfrey Gipson, Dr. A. Ronald Hudson, Ruby Bridges,
And The GYO Story About the Gifford Tigers Logo
With a special presentation by Dr. Paul Minotty about
Dr. David Kearney McDonogh’s Visions, dreams, persistence and
Early African American Civil Rights.

Instead of the usual focus on African American inventions, music compositions, or other arts
usually featured in Black History Programs, Saturday’s presentation weaves together the music
from GYO students with the social justice history of some of the Gifford Heroes who made it
possible for Black, Brown, and White children to attend school in Indian River County.
The Gifford Youth Orchestra presents its 2025 Annual Black History Program
PowerPoint Presentation created by Founder and Artistic Director, Rev. Dr. Crystal Bujol,
With GYO Musicians and the 2025 Readers:
Casey Lunceford, Jane Burton, Jack Stiefel,
Lynn DiMenna, Tammy Broxton Brown, and Alan Forster.
