Get your kicks at Vero’s Downtown Country Hoedown

The streets of downtown Vero Beach are set to come alive with music, food and festivities at the Downtown Country Hoedown, hosted by Main Street Vero Beach. From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, the Hoedown happens on 14th Avenue. Enjoy a live band, food trucks and a variety of vendors offering unique shopping opportunities. Bring a chair if you prefer to sit and enjoy the music, and don’t forget that while most vendors accept cards, the beer tent and a few others are cash-only. Celebrate the special bond between mothers and daughters at the 17th Annual Mother & Daughter Tea Party. Hosted by the City of Vero Beach Recreation Department, it begins at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Vero Beach Community Center, 2266 14th Ave. This year’s theme is “Under the Sea,” featuring crafts, games, prizes, food and fun for all ages. Tickets are $25 per mother-daughter pair and $10 for each additional family member. Advance registration is required, and no walk-ins will be accepted. Main Street Vero Beach presents its second Classic Movie Night at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Majestic 11 Theatre. The featured movie is the beloved romantic comedy “The Philadelphia Story,” starring Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant and James Stewart. Tickets are $10 and include a champagne toast and chocolate treats. Concessions will also be available for purchase. After the movie, head to one of the fantastic downtown restaurants for dinner. The Indian River Symphonic Association presents the world-renowned Cleveland Orchestra, conducted by Stéphane Denève and featuring violinist María Dueñas, at 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, at the Community Church of Vero Beach, 1901 23rd St. The program includes works by Bizet, Lalo and Dvořák. The Emerson Center’s E-Series will present Join Danielle Montesdeoca, Education and Outreach Coordinator for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, for an engaging talk on Florida’s invasive species at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4. Learn about the innovative strategies used to protect Florida’s ecosystems from nonnative species. Admission is free, but a $10 donation is suggested. Doors open one hour prior to the lecture. Riverside Theatre presents Terrence McNally’s “Master Class,” starring Tony Award-winner Karen Ziemba as Maria Callas. This Tony Award-winning play runs from Feb. 4 to Feb. 23 in Riverside’s Waxlax Stage. The play offers a glimpse into the life and artistry of the legendary opera singer. If you want to see Ballet Vero Beach performing “Joie de Vivre” at the Vero Beach Museum of Art on Feb. 8, best get those tickets now. The first performance is already sold out. The performance is inspired by the museum’s French Moderns: Monet to Matisse 1850-1950 exhibition which opens Saturday, Feb. 1, and runs through June 22. The exhibition promises to be a stunning collection of masterpieces by iconic artists such as Monet, Matisse and others. It is organized by Lisa Small, senior curator of European art, and Richard Aste, former curator of European art, Brooklyn Museum. The two new works choreographed by Ballet Vero Beach dancers showcase French-inspired movement. Performances are at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, in the Leonhardt Auditorium. Tickets are $30 for museum members and $36 for non-members, including gallery admission.
