John J. Parent, 78, Vero Beach
John J. Parent, 78, of Vero Beach, died March 17, 2018, at Indian River Medical Center. John was born in Miami, Fla., and has lived in Vero Beach for 64 years after moving back to Florida from South Berwick, Maine, with his family as a teenager.
He was a graduate of Vero Beach High School, the Class of 1957. After graduation, John joined the United States Air Force and served his country there for the next four years.
John loved to work with heavy equipment and trucks. He had his own trucking business for a while before joining Russell Concrete in Vero Beach and later Rinker Concrete.
He was a member of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Martha Parent; son, Gregory John Parent, of Vero Beach; brothers, Paul Parent (Merry), Richard Parent (Barbara) and Ken Parent (Joyce), all of Vero Beach.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred and Rose Parent.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to Noon, Wednesday, March 21, at Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach.
A funeral service will be held Noon, Wednesday, March 21, in the Strunk Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Crestlawn Cemetery, Vero Beach.
