Deborah “Debby” Brayton Young, 77, Vero Beach
March 12, 1947 – November 1, 2024
Deborah “Debby” Brayton Young, of Vero Beach, passed away on November 1, 2024. She was 77. Debby was born in East Orange, New Jersey to parents Rosemary and William Brayton. She was seven years old when she moved to Vero Beach Florida, where she remained throughout her life.
Debby graduated from Vero Beach High School in 1965. She then went to Stetson and Florida Atlantic University. After graduating she began her 35 year teaching career at Vero Beach Junior High School and later Vero Beach High School. She was an English teacher and helped many students, including most of the Vero Beach High School football team. Debby cherished her time teaching and shared many of those moments with her best friend, Norva Greene.
Debby met her husband George (Buddy) Toohey Young Il in high school. They were married in Jacksonville, FL, three months before Buddy got out of the Navy. They enjoyed 56 wonderful years of marriage together. Debby loved to travel. Special memories were made with her family every Summer in Marathon, FL fishing and lobstering. Buddy and she also went to Alaska four times, the Grand Canyon, shelling in Sanibel Island, cruising, and many other places. Debby loved “Bird” dogs and she and Buddy had many over the years. Debby volunteered for Meals on Wheels and AARP, doing taxes, for free, at the library and The Indian River County Volunteer Ambulance Squad.
Debby was predeceased by her parents, grandparents, many aunts, uncles, cousins, her sister Barbara Walker, brother Tyler Brayton and daughter Elizabeth Langlois Ferguson.
Debby is survived by her husband George Toohey Young Il, sons GeorgeToohey Young Ill (Erica) and Adam Young. Grandchildren Allison Baird (Caleb), Zachary Young, and Greg Young. Great grandchild Ezekiel Baird and brother Arthur Brayton.
A memorial service will be held 3pm on Friday, November 8,2024 at Cox-Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home 1950 20th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

Carolyn Ann Richardson, 79, Vero Beach
May 16, 1945 – October 25, 2024
Carolyn Ann Richardson, 79, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2024, at Spring Hill Assisted Living Facility in Vero Beach, FL. Born in Binghamton, NY, on May 16, 1945, she was a daughter of the late Charles Hotchkiss Osterhout and Louise Hauser Osterhout.
Carolyn spent her early years in Binghamton before moving to Vero Beach just before middle school, and lived in Springfield, VA for many years prior to returning to Vero. She graduated from Vero Beach High School in 1963 and went on to earn her undergraduate degree from Florida State University, and later, a Master’s degree from George Mason University. Throughout her life, Carolyn dedicated herself to education and service, working as a teacher, secretary, technical writer, reading specialist, and nurse.
A devoted wife to James David Richardson and loving mother to Charles Richardson and Alice Richardson Kimbrough, Carolyn cherished her role as a mother-in-law to Chris Kimbrough and as a grandmother to Luke, Raymond, and Megan. She also held a special place in her heart for her sister, Gladys Chambley Kicklighter, beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Carolyn was a passionate church member and served as a Sunday School teacher. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was a missionary to the Philippines, where she shared her love of the Lord with others.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Spring Hill Assisted Living Facility for their compassionate care.
A funeral service will be held at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 1:00pm with burial to follow in Crestlawn Cemetery.
Carolyn will be remembered for her hospitality, dedication to her family, and unwavering faith.

Patricia Dawn Rausch, 68, Rochester, NY
June 16, 1956 – October 30, 2024
Patricia Dawn Rausch, 68, of Rochester, NY, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.
Patricia was born in Washington, D.C., to Robert R. Rausch (deceased) and Jane Elizabeth Hardee Rausch. She grew up in Springfield, Virginia, and attended Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) before relocating to Vero Beach, Florida, in the late 1970s. In Vero Beach, Patricia worked for the City of Vero Beach Recreation Department, where she made many lifelong friends.
Patricia recently moved to Rochester, New York, where she enjoyed the company of her family and friends.
Patricia is survived by her daughter, Carmen Guzman; her mother, Jane E. Rausch; and her brother, William C. Rausch. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert R. Rausch, and her brother, Robert S. Rausch.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 2:30 PM at Crestlawn Cemetery in Vero Beach, FL.

Joe Barnes Fredlock, 90,
Joe was born in Morgantown, West Virginia on October 14, 1933. He passed away peacefully on September 28, 2024, just shy of his ninety-first birthday. He is survived by his wife Anne Holt Fredlock of Vero Beach FL, his daughters Amy Mintz of Herndon VA, married to Michael, parents of Aaron and his wife Bella, and Anna, and Jenny Franczak of Durham NC, parent of Amanda, Marlee, and Ian, his son-in-law Col. Robert B Holt Ret. of Morgantown WV, step-son John Paul Loehr, Ph.D. of Winnetka IL married to Beth, parents of Katelin and Charlotte, and his step-daughter Jennifer Nasca of Liberty Township OH, married to James, parents of Isabelle and Rocco.
He spent his childhood in Morgantown and attended Mercersburg Academy. He graduated from WVU with a degree in Psychology. He was a residential builder, a long time member of the North Central West Virginia Home Builder’s Association, and was president of the Association in 1971. He built, owned, and managed student housing for many years. He mentored and guided students through various college issues. A few of these students became life long friends.
Joe had many interests, including a passion for golf. He loved to play as much as he loved the fellowship of other golfers. Over his lifetime he had seven hole-in-ones and shot his age or better twenty-one times.
Another of his favorite pastimes was boating. As with golf, he enjoyed sharing outings with friends and family.
He also loved traveling; he and Anne traveled extensively around the world thru six continents.
Joe loved new technology. He volunteered and mentored adults who wanted to learn or improve their computer skills. He and Anne taught computer classes on several of their cruise ship excursions. On one of their teaching cruises, Joe struck up a conversation with a gentleman who clearly knew his way around a computer. The gentleman explained that he had written a program that Apple rejected. Microsoft, however, was quite interested. That application was named Power Point, and the rest is history.
Joe was a gentleman who truly never met a stranger, he could strike up a conversation with anyone. He was known for his wonderful sense of humor and could light up a room with funny stories and his infectious laughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth Mustard Fredlock and James Raymond Fredlock, and his beloved brother and good friend, Jim Fredlock.

Gale West Parmentier, 83, Fort Pierce
February 11, 1941 – October 23, 2024
Gale died peacefully in Fort Pierce, Florida, with her husband and son by her side. She is survived by her husband Al Parmentier, her son John Fretwell, her brother Jack West, her sister Sheila Powell, her stepchildren Peter Parmentier and DeChantel Yates, her nieces Dianne West and Jocelynn July, and her six grandchildren.
Gale was born in Medford, MA, of the late Washington West and Martha Coulter West. She attended Francis C. Hammond High School in Alexandria, VA. She actively advocated for racial integration at her high school, despite facing criticism from many of her peers. While visiting relatives in Philadelphia, she and her brother attended American Bandstand, where Dick Clark invited them to perform a spotlight dance to showcase the differences in dance styles between Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia.
Gale was a graduate of The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA, where she received a B.A. in history and became a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She was a leader in that organization throughout her life.
After graduating from college, Gale worked as a programmer at AT&T. Following marriage to Jack Fretwell and the birth of her son, John, she taught at Londontowne Elementary School in Fairfax County, VA. In 1980, Gale moved to St. Mary’s County, Maryland, and married Albert A. Parmentier, Jr., D.D.S. She worked as a programmer for the Information Management Department at Patuxant Naval Air Station. Both Gale and her husband were active sailors and raced their sailboat in many events sponsored by the Southern Maryland Sailing Association on Chesapeake Bay.
In 1998, Gale and Al boarded their sailboat and headed south for retirement and the Bahamas. After four years of sailing and living in an R.V., the couple settled in Fort Pierce, FL. Gale loved the traveling life, so they continued until 2013, making several circumnavigations of the U.S. and Canada, the purpose of which was to visit as many national parks as possible. They also travelled to Europe with friends and family.
In the early 2000s, Gale participated in two 50-mile walks to raise money for Breast Cancer research.
The couple joined the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Vero Beach in 2003. Gale’s passion for social justice motivated her to co-found a Fair Trade store in the UU building. She operated the store for 18 years, and it is still in operation.
Throughout her life, Gale’s motto was: “The meaning of life is to make life meaningful.”
A celebration of life will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Vero Beach, 1590 27th Avenue, Vero Beach, Florida, on November 25, 2024, at 11AM.

Janice Tucci, 81, Vero Beach
November 14, 1942 – November 9, 2024
Janice Tucci, 81, of Vero Beach, FL, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Saturday, November 9, 2024.
Janice was born in Syracuse, NY, to John and Jessie Peterson. As one of five children, she was part of a close-knit family that shared a bond of love, laughter, and support throughout her life.
A graduate of Vocational High School in 1960, Janice married the love of her life, James Tucci, in 1963. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising two children who were her pride and joy. Janice spent many years working at Crouse Hinds before retiring to follow her true passion for caring for animals. She devoted her time to the S.P.C.A. in Syracuse, where her kindness and gentle spirit made a lasting impact on both animals and people.
In her later years, Janice moved to Vero Beach, FL, to be closer to family. She embraced her new life with the same warmth and generosity that had defined her, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, humor, and love.
Janice was predeceased by her beloved husband, James Tucci; her parents; her sister, Jeanne Reese; her son-in-law, Landon McGary; her nephew, James R. Peterson Jr.; and her dear brother-in-law, Tom Gallagher. She is lovingly survived by her children, Angela McGary and James Tucci, both of Vero Beach, and her cherished grandchildren, Sarah Tucci and Aidan McGary, who were truly the apple of her eye. Janice is also survived by her siblings, James (Avis) Peterson of Central Square, NY, Charles (Colleen) Peterson, and Jacqueline Gallagher, both of Vero Beach, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a community of friends who will deeply miss her.
In accordance with her wishes, Janice’s final arrangements will be made through Cox-Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home, with no formal services. We honor her wish for a quiet, private celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers, Janice’s family invites you to make a donation in her memory to your local animal shelter, continuing her lifelong compassion for animals.

Gertrude (Trudy) Whitty Gamble, 96
July 14, 1928 – November 8, 2024
Gertrude (Trudy) Whitty Gamble was born on July 14, 1928 to her parents, Edith and John Whitty, in Lee, Florida. After graduating from Florida State University, she met and married her husband, Thomas Gamble. Together, they raised four daughters: Susan, Kathryn, Jennifer (James), and Allison (Mike). Throughout her life, her family and friends, her faith in God, and her love for teaching remained her highest priorities.
She was the proud grandmother of Tommy (Sarah), Katie (Ian), Andrew (Kayleigh), Kevin, and Justin (Jessica). In addition, she was delighted with her great-grandchildren: Robin, Levi, Madelynn, Cameron, Jackson, Iris, and Owen.
On November 8, 2024, she passed from this earthly life to her eternal home, where she rejoined family who predeceased her: her husband; her parents; her siblings: Lucile, Muriel, Frances, Bobby, and Benny; and her daughter, Kathy. She is survived by three daughters, her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren, and members of her extended family.
A memorial service to honor her life will be held during the spring of 2025. Katheryn Elizabeth Roman, 95, Vero Beach
May 31, 1929 – November 15, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Katheryn Elizabeth Roman on November 15, 2024, after a brief illness. Katheryn was born on May 31, 1929 to Enoch G. Doores and Maude L. Doores in Sunset Hills, Va. Katheryn graduated in 1946 from Herndon High School, Herndon, Va. where she was on the women’s basketball team. After graduating she worked at the American Red Cross in Washington, DC. In 1948 she met her beloved husband of 55 years Robert (Bob) Roman who predeceased her. They lived many years in Norfolk, VA retiring to live on a golf course in Virginia Beach. Katheryn was an avid golfer who participated in Ladies Golf Associations and Tournaments. In October 2007 she moved to Indian River Estates, a retirement community in Vero Beach, Florida, to join two of her sisters. Katheryn’s six sisters and two brothers predeceased her. She is survived by nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Katheryn kept in touch with them always remembering their birthdays and other memorable events. Katheryn will be buried at Bealton, VA along side her parents.
