It may be a bit of a drive, but theater lovers may enjoy the idea of traveling to Melbourne to see a professional tour of the Tony- and Grammy-winning musical “Dear Evan Hansen” when it performs at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, and Wednesday, Oct. 30, at the King Center for the Performing Arts. This highly acclaimed production is part of the 2024-25 Broadway at the King Center series. “Dear Evan Hansen” was called “one of the most remarkable shows in musical theater history” by the Washington Post. It tells the story of Evan Hansen, a high school student struggling with feelings of isolation. Through its funny, poignant and powerful narrative and score, the musical delves into themes of connection, identity, and the challenges faced by today’s youth. The score, crafted by the award-winning team of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, features iconic songs like “You Will Be Found” and “Waving Through a Window.” Tickets are $62 to $102. The Vero Beach Theatre Guild will hold auditions for “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, Monday, Oct. 28, and Tuesday, Oct. 29. Call-backs will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30. This comedic musical, based on the 1988 Steve Martin and Michael Cain film, follows two con men competing for control of the French Riviera. The production is scheduled to run Feb. 7-23. The auditions are open to actors aged 16 and up. Prepare a cut of music that runs 90 seconds or less. You can use sheet music, a karaoke track or a YouTube video. If you use sheet music, be sure to get there during the first hour because that’s the only time the piano accompanist will be available. There will also be a dance call audition 7:30 p.m. on audition nights, so be sure to wear clothes and shoes comfortable enough for dancing. Vero Beach High School will host an Orchestral Spooktacular concert Thursday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. There will be eerie tunes and spooky musical fun. You are invited to dress for the occasion. Children in costume will be admitted free. Otherwise, tickets are $5 to $12. The following week, the school is the place for a production of “Arsenic and Old Lace.” This comedy follows Mortimer Brewster discovering that his elderly aunts make poisoned elderberry wine which they use to commit murder. He also discovers a brother who thinks he’s Teddy Roosevelt and another who uses plastic surgery to hide from the police. And yes, it’s a comedy. The show performs at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center, 1707 16th St. Tickets are $5 to $10.
