INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A stunned silence settled over parts of the barrier island and mainland Friday as residents and crews quietly focused on picking up the pieces and damage left from tornadoes spawned by Hurricane Milton. Only the jarring buzz of chainsaws cutting up large tree branches, along with vehicles passing by, could be heard above the morning quiet.
Emergency service officials said Hurricane Milton produced four tornadoes Wednesday in Indian River County, uprooting trees, toppling signs, downing power lines and sending debris into the roadways. Milton has since dissipated into the Atlantic Ocean.
Crews had cleared most of the debris from the streets on Thursday, sheriff’s officials said. Here are photos of the cleanup and remaining damage on Friday.
