Coming Up! ‘Outre Watercolor’ art on display at Sebastian gallery

The exhibition “Outre Watercolor Paintings” by Quentin Walter will be on view from Sept. 30 to Dec. 30 at the Intimate Encounters Mercedes Devereau gallery, 13700 Ruffner Lane, Sebastian. The second annual “Hidden Faces” special event will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at the Heritage Center, 2140 14th Ave., Vero Beach. The event will offer food cooked and served by the Source’s Dignity Culinary Training Program. There will also be a cash bar, music and prizes. The event is designed, though, to showcase the nonprofit organization called “The Source,” which works with the community’s most vulnerable individuals. Programming includes a video with images of the human side of homelessness and need. There will also be success stories by those whose lives have been transformed through the Source. As stated in its press release, the event will let you “walk away from the evening with more awareness on the issue of homelessness and proud to learn just how it is being eradicated right here in Indian River County.” Tickets are $20 per person. The Fashion for Freedom fundraiser begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, at the Indian River Charter High School, 6055 College Lane, Vero Beach. There will be fashions from Patchington, InMotion and Seahorse Lane. Funds raised will help support the school’s Ukrainian students. Admission is $20 general and $10 students. The 5K Freedom Run & Walk begins 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at South Beach Park, 1702 Ocean Dr., Vero Beach. The event supports the Substances Awareness Center of Indian River County’s prevention, treatment and recovery programs which helps individuals and families, regardless of their ability to pay. There will be T-shirts, awards, and a food and beverage post-race gathering. Race fees are $30 general, and $15 for children 12 years and younger. The Hunt for Hope, an old-fashioned scavenger hunt, will run from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 28, at Riverview Park, U.S. 1 and County Road 512 in Sebastian. The registration fee is a minimum suggested donation of $25 per person. Those under 18 years of age do not require a registration fee. There will be T-shirts (limited supply) and a raffle. The Emerson Center’s E-series on citizen climate experts presents “Join the Climate Solution,” 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the Emerson Center, located on the campus at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Vero Beach, 1590 27th Ave. The speakers will be Jeff Dorian and Lisa Ruckman, who are Florida Coordinators for Citizens’ Climate Lobby. The event explores science-based strategies to reduce energy costs and improve public health. The speakers will present the En-ROADS simulator, which is a cutting-edge interactive tool used to model climate policy impacts on global temperature.
