INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A man was fatally wounded in a deputy-involved shooting late Sunday at a RaceTrac gas station parking lot, sheriff’s officials said. The deputy was not injured, said Sgt. Kevin Jaworski, a spokesperson with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.

There was limited information available about the circumstances leading up to the gunfire.

The incident happened about 10:42 p.m. Sunday in the 9400 block of 108th Avenue, just east of Interstate 95, Jaworski said. Indian River County Fire Rescue crews pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Jaworski said the names of the man and the deputy will be released at a later time. Crime scene detectives were investigating the shooting.

More details were expected to be released at a Monday news conference at the sheriff’s office.
