INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Sheriff’s detectives were awaiting toxicology results they believe could shed more light on the death of a man whose body was found in a pond behind Sam’s Club last week. The man, described as homeless, was identified as 39-year-old Charles Tong, said Sgt. Kevin Jaworski, a spokesperson for the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.

“No foul play is suspected at this time,” Jaworski said.

A Sam’s Club worker found the body floating face down the afternoon of June 16 in the retention pond, Jaworski said. The pond is located just south of the store, 5565 20th Street, east of 58th Avenue.

The employee called 911. Sheriff’s deputies responded to the incident.

The body was taken to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy, Jaworski said. The final autopsy report, including toxicology results, won’t be completed for several weeks.
