VERO BEACH — Wind chill values will plummet below 40 degrees this weekend, with the coldest temperatures arriving overnight on Saturday, meteorologists said. Plans for cold weather shelter openings have not yet been announced.
The wind chill from Saturday night going into Sunday morning will be between 32 and 37 degrees west of Interstate 95, said Melissa Watson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Melbourne. Along the coast, the wind chill will be between 36 and 44 degrees.
The wind chill value is what the temperature feels like to the body from the combination of cold temperatures and blowing wind, weather experts said.
The cold front will reach Vero Beach on Friday, followed by cooler and drier air, meteorologists said. There is a moderate risk of rip currents, and water conditions were expected to weaken in the evening.
Friday night will be mostly cloudy with a low temperature near 55 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne. Saturday and Sunday will be sunny with highs in the lower 60s.
The low temperature for Saturday will be near 50 degrees, and for Sunday near 60 degrees, meteorologists said. Temperatures will warm back up Monday with a high near 70 degrees, before dipping near 66 degrees that night.
