INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — No foul play was suspected in the death of a man who sheriff’s officials said possibly died from a drug overdose last week. Drug paraphernalia was found near the body in a wooded area, not far from the county’s waste management facility, according to sheriff’s spokesperson Sgt. Kevin Jaworski.
“Although we will wait for the final ruling from the Medical Examiner’s Office, we can confidently say it was most likely an overdose,” Jaworski said.
Two people were walking on Thursday near the 800 block of 1st Place when they saw the man’s body lying in the woodline and called 911. The location is just east of the Indian River County Waste Disposal.
The man was pronounced dead at 5:12 p.m. by emergency medical services, Jaworski said.
There was no trauma to the body, sheriff’s officials said. Jaworski said the man, who was known to law enforcement, lived in the area.
The body had been lying in the woods for a short amount of time, Jaworski said. An autopsy will be performed to determine how the man died.
The death remains under investigation.
