Young women today are subject to far more – and often more dangerous – influences than past generations experienced.
Dr. Jacqueline Jacobs, of the Laura (Riding) Jackson Foundation, will discuss “The Influence of Culture on Perception of Self in Girls and Young Women” at the regular Lunch Meeting of the Vero Beach branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) at 11:30am on Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Richardson Center of Indian River State College, 6155 College Lane, Vero Beach.
Dr. Jacobs holds a Ph.D. in educational leadership as well as bachelor’s and master’s degrees in elementary and special education. She has worked in schools and universities on five continents, most recently as Special Services Coordinator at the Pan American School in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. She was the first Behavior Specialist in Indian River County, and has served as principal of elementary schools here, as Chair of the Education Pillar for United Way of IRC, and is currently VP-Operations for the Laura (Riding) Jackson Foundation.
She has developed a specialty in the social and emotional development and well-being of girls and young women and has conducted research that she has presented at conferences and/or published on topics such as “social self-perception” and “generative leadership.”
Dr. Jacobs also is a published novelist and recipient of the Royal Palm Literary Award and the American Writers Award.
