BALLET VERO BEACH ANNOUNCES BEYOND THE BALLETS RUSSES
Company To Celebrate Revolutionary Troupe
Ballet Vero Beach continues the company’s 10th anniversary season with a celebration of a singular company that shaped the world as we know it and continues to influence all aspect of the dance world to this day, the Ballets Russes. Taking the influence of the great troupe as a jumping off point, this program will feature a world premiere by Adam Schnell, Sylvia Pas de Deux by George Balanchine, and the world premiere of Camilo A. Rodriguez’s thrilling adaptation of the Ballet Russes classic, Firebird.
Schnell’s world premiere uses Maurice Ravel’s iconic Bolero to pay homage to the Ballets Russe dancer who is responsible for the score’s existence, Ida Rubinstein. Rubinstein was the most famous star alive in her heyday. Her performances with the Ballets Russes, and those of her own troupe, were revolutionary. Yet today very few people understand her contributions to the world of art and beyond. George Balanchine’s Sylvia Pas De Deux is a stunning representation of true elegance that showcases the great choreographer’s classical modernism he began exhibiting while working for the Ballets Russes. Finally, Firebird is Ballet Vero Beach’s very own adaptation of the classic ballet. With a modernized score, based on the originally Stravinsky, by David Homan, choreography by Camilo A. Rodriguez, and exquisite costumes and special effects, this work promises to be the must-see event of the season. Influence. Drama. Art. Do not miss this exceptional program.
Full performances are slated for 7:30pm on February 24 and 2:00pm and 7:30pm on February 25. The Accessible/Family Friendly Series performance of Firebird will take place February 26 at 2:00pm.
