Some things are just meant to be. John and Patricia Zimbrick bought a lot and designed a home to be built on it at 119 Springline Dr. in the gated Anchor subdivision in The Moorings, but the timing wasn’t right.
So, they sold the lot and design package and continued to live in Wisconsin. Years later, when they were ready to go ahead and make the move south, Zimbrick put in a call to Judy Hargarten at The Moorings Realty Sales Co.
Amazingly, the home the couple had poured so much time and love into dreaming about and designing had been built and was for sale. They didn’t hesitate to purchase the property and spent several years enjoying the three-bedroom, four-bath, 3,701-square-foot waterfront home.
The open-plan design is the epitome of waterside elegance. High ceilings, large rooms and fine finishes were perfectly matched by the builder, Helmet House, resulting in a exceptional residence.
The split floor plan offers a number of formal living areas alongside more casual “Florida areas,” says Hargarten.
At the apex of the circle drive, manicured topiary adds to the symmetry of the design. When you step through the front door, you are greeted by a sea of polished travertine that leads the way to spectacular views of Moorings waterways.
A real boon, notes Hargarten, are the remote-controlled shades. That way you can enjoy the views or create your own private oasis with the press of a button.
The owner’s suite is located in the east wing of the house, along with a den and pool bathroom. A Murphy bed allows for flexible use of the den as an extra bedroom with the proximity of the pool bath convenient for guests.
A bay window provides lovely views of the pool and river from the spacious owner’s suite, a private haven that includes walk-in closets, two water closets, a bidet, vanity, dual sinks, soaking tub and walk-in shower.
The dining room and formal living area are located at the center of the house, leaving plenty of space between guest rooms and the owner’s suite on the opposite side of the house. Here, the kitchen, pantry, bar, and family room are positioned near the pool to make the most of indoor-outdoor living.
The dining room provides a more formal environment for entertaining when casual poolside gatherings aren’t the setting du jour. Columns, a chandelier, tray ceiling and a large window create a bright, elegant space.
A long granite countertop creates a sense of division between the kitchen and gathering areas. High-end appliances, including a Wolf gas range and a large island at the center of the kitchen, provide plenty of prep space when you’re entertaining a large crowd. Two sinks and a breakfast nook complete the room.
The laundry room has an overflow refrigerator and access to the three-car garage. There’s no shortage of storage space in this house, with an air-conditioned storage loft above the garage, easily reached via a staircase off the laundry room.
In the family room, a wet bar of pecky cedar is easily accessible so you can freshen up your drinks before heading out to the sunroom lined with sliding glass doors and a screened porch that spans the rear of the house, offering uninterrupted views of Treasure Cove and the Indian River Lagoon.
“The owners enclosed the sunroom so they could see the beautiful sunsets without sitting outside,” says Hargarten. The outlet of the cove, where it meets the Intracoastal Waterway, is just a quick dash away from the home’s 30-foot dock.
“This is one of the few houses with a lap pool,” says Hargarten of the 42-foot pool nestled in the private backyard. There’s plenty of space for guests to spread out poolside and enjoy outdoor dining alongside the summer kitchen.
As a member of the Moorings Property Owners Association, residents have private beach access and patrolled security. Originally designed as a boating community, The Moorings Yacht & Country Club offers a full range of country club amenities, including Pete Dye’s signature course, Jim Fazio’s Hawk’s Nest championship course, tennis, pickleball, and croquet courts, a state-of-the-art fitness center with pool and spa, a yacht club, as well as fine and casual dining.
The Moorings is a short drive away from Vero’s Ocean Drive for shopping and dining. Nearby Riverside Theatre and Vero Beach Museum of Art offer world-class cultural outings. For families with children, Saint Edward’s School conveniently abuts the community.
