United Way seeks community impact volunteers

Indian River County, February 23, 2022 – United Way of Indian River County is looking for passionate and community-minded volunteers to serve on one of several Citizen Review Panels. This annual review of funding requests is open to Indian River County residents who want to help with the evaluation process.

Throughout April, Associate Panelists carefully assess each organization requesting funds. Volunteers review grant applications, conduct non-profit agency site visits, and evaluate and recommend programming to aid in funding decisions. Funding recommendations are then presented to United Way’s all-volunteer Board of Directors. As a Citizens’ Review Process volunteer, you are helping direct local donor funds to fill the biggest health and financial stability gaps in our community. This year, 26 non-profit agencies have applied for grant funding.

United Way of Indian River County’s non-profit partners must meet a stringent set of eligibility criteria annually and report quarterly metrics and program outcomes semi-annually. This ensures the highest financial transparency and accountability standards for all agencies receiving United Way funds while meeting our community’s vital social service needs. All partners are 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations providing human services in Indian River County.

Community volunteers make one hundred percent of our funding decisions. United Way funds programs that are effecting change with their clients. Funds must be used for specific program services helping vulnerable families in our community. Funds raised in Indian River stay in Indian River. Program funding cycles every two years. Agencies receiving funding must re-apply each cycle.

“In today’s world, donors want proof that their dollars are making a difference. The UWIRC Citizens’ Review Process does just that. Donors, volunteers, and community stakeholders review non-profit applications, learn about community issues, and the non-profits that are fighting to solve those issues,” said United Way’s Director of Community Impact, Nate Bruckner.

Participating volunteers will have the opportunity to meet, work with and get to know other concerned community leaders, volunteers, and service providers. Orientation begins April 1, 2022. Please expect a 10-15 hour commitment over the course of the month of April for the CRP process.

Our primary concern is for all participants’ health and will offer virtual and in-person attendance. Volunteer applications can be found online at UnitedWayIRC.org/CRP.
