Smithsonian Marine Science 2018 Lecture Series: Bivalves at Work

February 1, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

Join Dr. Jessica Lunt and Dr. Eve Galimany from the Smithsonian Marine Station’s Ecology Laboratory as they share the wonders of bivalves (oysters, mussels and clams) in an informative presentation.

These aquatic invertebrates, deemed “nature’s filters”, are very important organisms in the Indian River Lagoon.

As filter feeders they take in algae from the water column as food, making them vital to mitigate harmful algal blooms, a major threat to the Indian River Lagoon.
