VERO BEACH – February 1 launches this season’s five-class Opera Studies course presented by Vero Beach Opera and hosted by the Vero Beach Museum of Art. Led by Wayne Kleinstiver, Vero Beach Opera Studies Chair, this year’s theme is “A Date with the Devil.”
“Characters symbolizing the devil and demons have peopled fairytales and fiction of all types in every age,” said Kleinstiver, who pointed out that Gounod’s opera Faust was the most popular opera in the world for over 100 years after it premiered in 1859.
The 2018 Opera Studies program will feature signature performances of five operas from the stages of such major cities as San Francisco, Moscow, Berlin, London, and St. Petersburg.
Dates are: Feb. 1- Mefistofele, Feb. 15- The Demon, Feb. 22- Orpheus in the Underworld, March 1- Robert le Diable, and March 8- The Fiery Angel.
All performances will have English subtitles.
The programs are presented in the Leonhardt Auditorium at the Museum from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuition for Museum of Art and Vero Beach Opera members is $55 for the series. Non-member charge is $75 for the series.
