Vero Beach, FL – May 12, 2021 – Vero Beach Rowing is heading to the US Rowing National Regatta, the sport’s national championships, following breakout performances by the club’s junior women and men at the US Rowing Southeast Region Youth Rowing Championships at Melton Lake in Oak Ridge, TE last weekend. Zadie Diniz and Liliana Elliott cruised through their qualifying heat and rowed away from the crowd to take the U17 gold medal the following day, beating out Sarasota and Gainesville clubs for the win.
Evan Losey, Josh Navarro, Nick O’Neill, John Inman & Sam Buckley won bronze in the men’s quad and Wilson Murphy and Marcello DiMaggio won bronze in the men’s double.
Two of the teams will advance to the national championships June 10-13 at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, FL. Diniz and Elliot will represent the women’s U17 and Evan Losey and Nick O’Neill will race a double for the men.
Vero Beach Rowing now is recruiting youth athletes for our middle and high school teams with no prior experience required. The club will host summer rowing camp programs for all experience levels for rising 7th graders through 12th graders. Youth scholarships are available. Adult rowing programs include entry level through performance classes and coached sessions. A free Learn-to-Row Day for interested youth and adults is scheduled for Saturday, May 15 from 9 am to 12 pm.
