The Vero Beach Woman’s Club will host an Inaugural Mad Hatter’s Tea Party on Saturday March 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. at its landmark building, 1534 21st Street in Downtown Vero Beach.
Don’t be late for this very important date, which will feature an Easter Bonnet contest and a catered afternoon tea to raise money for new Vero Beach Woman’s Club Scholarships in connection with the Gifford Youth Achievement Center Scholarship Fund, to help enable deserving female high school attend college.
The Vero Beach Woman’s Club predates the incorporation of Vero Beach in June 1919 and the creation of Indian River County (separating it from St. Lucie County) in May 1925.
The club was founded in 1915 by Irene Young, wife of Anthony W. Young, who would become Vero’s first mayor when the city was incorporated. The historic VBWC building, completed in 1916 and enlarged in 1926, was then adjacent to the Young home. It was added to the U. S. National Register of Historic Places in February 1995.
Dedicated to making “A beautiful Vero Beach and surrounding county the best place on earth to live,” the VBWC has been responsible for more than a century’s worth of beautification and civic projects. The club is currently experiencing a resurgence in membership and, in addition to fundraising for Vero Beach Woman’s Club Scholarships, is reviewing plans to renovate the building, which is currently available for event rentals.
Tickets for the VBWC Mad Hatter’s Tea Party are $75 per person ($50 is tax deductible) or $300 for a table of four. The fun is endless, but space is limited to ensure social distancing. Masks are mandatory.
