INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Two women have non-life threatening injuries after a head-on crash Monday that briefly blocked the roadway, Florida Highway Patrol officers said.
The two-vehicle crash, involving a white Nissan Pathfinder and a black Lincoln MKZ, happened about 4 p.m. Monday at 37th Street and U.S. 1. The driver of one vehicle had cuts to her face and a broken arm, while the other motorist had abrasions to her arm and legs, Trooper Marcio Henriquez said.
The Nissan driver, age 82, was taken by ambulance to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce with serious injuries, Indian River County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Joe Kovaleski said. The Lincoln driver was taken to Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital with minor injuries.
No other occupants were in the vehicles.

Indian River County sheriff’s deputies shut down 37th Street and U.S. 1 near the crash site for about an hour. A tow truck removed both vehicles, which were totaled.
Highway troopers will investigate the cause of the crash.
