Join Bike-Walk Indian River County for a free screening of the award-winning movie Bicycle Revolution, followed by a discussion with local leaders on how you can help make our community an even better place to live.
Bicycle Revolution follows a class of 15 students at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, Calif., who cycle to 12 cities in order to explore the challenges of creating bicycle-friendly cities. The class is literally on wheels – the film documents the students’ rides to meet with knowledgeable decision-makers, transportation planners, and community activists in Southern California.
The film explores the issues of bicycle infrastructure, “invisible cyclists,” bike-sharing programs, cyclists’ safety, and bike commuting and provides a guide for citizens to become involved with their city’s bicycle advocacy groups and planning commissions.
The movie will be followed by a panel discussion focusing on ways the average citizen can interact with local government officials to bring about positive change in the community. While the focus will be on bicycle safety, the message – that the average person can make a difference – is much broader that just bicycling safety.
