The Stars Come Out at Blue Star is an exciting fundraising effort for the Performing Arts Department at the Indian River Charter High School. On Jan. 27, a lavish four-course dinner will be served at the Blue Star, as the elite members of the performing arts department wow their guests with awarding winning showtunes and cabaret.
The students recently competed in a regional competition where they scored the highest, superior ratings in the areas of vocal delivery, choreography and staging, focus, emotional commitment and character development. They will be performing some of those competition Broadway pieces, in addition to songs developed just for this winter spectacular.
The group is taught by Michael Naffziger, the VAPA school’s theatre program Director. Naff, as he is called, is a TONY nominated theatre educator in his 10th year at IRCHS. His students have been invited to perform as the “Mainstage” production at the largest high school theatre festival in the world for the past six years.
In the spring Mr. Naff and his students are taking To Kill a Mockingbird to the historic Tampa Theatre. Mr. Naff’s Students have gone on to study theatre at many prestigious drama schools like The American Academy of Dramatic Art (NY, NY), American Musical Dramatic Academy (NY, NY) and Savannah College of Art and Design (GA).
The school is also seeking sponsors for their Spring Musical, Camelot. Vero Beach is consistently very supportive of the school’s theatre endeavors and it is hoped the community will help bring this show to the stage at Charter. A sponsor packet can be obtained by calling Indian River Charter High School at 772-567-6600.
The Stars Come Out at Blue Star will be held at the restaurant at 2227 14th Avenue in Vero Beach on Monday, Jan. 27, 7 p.m. Tickets are $100 per person for a four-course meal and $120 for the meal plus paired wines with each course.
