No one was hurt and no damage was reported following a suspected shooting in the Highlands community in south Vero Beach overnight Monday.
Residents living in the 2300 block of 12th Avenue SW called 911 shortly after midnight to report hearing four or five gunshots. Authorities responding to the scene were unable to find evidence of such a shooting.
Monday morning, around 9 a.m., a resident called again, reporting having found spent shell casings in the middle of the road. The resident carefully collected the casings and turned them over as evidence, according to the case report.
The first caller was able to provide a description for a suspect vehicle seen traveling north on 12th Avenue SW after the gunshots were heard.
The Sheriff’s Office noted in the case report that the previous night, Nov. 3, a similar call was received in the 600 block of 25th Street SW, about a mile away.
“It is possible that these two incidents are related,” the case report reads.
