SEBASTIAN — A driver was seriously hurt in a single-vehicle crash early Thursday after his car struck a pipe near the driveway of a home, fire rescue crews said.
The wreck involving a Sedan happened at 5:41 a.m. Thursday in the 1700 block of Laconia Street, said Indian River County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Kyle Kofke and Sebastian Police Lt. Tim Wood. The driver, a man in his late 60s, drove off the roadway and struck a metal pipe encased in concrete.
The driver was taken by ambulance to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne with serious injuries, officials said. There were no other occupants in the vehicle, Wood said.
Sebastian police are investigating the cause of the collision. Further details on the crash were not immediately available.
