VERO BEACH — Batter up! This weekend will be full of bats and swings as Historic Dodgertown welcomes youth baseball teams from around the state and Georgia to showcase their skills in a Labor Day tournament.

More than 55 teams, with players ages 9 to 16, will compete at Dodgertown’s nine professionally designed baseball fields, including the iconic Holman Stadium, officials said.

The event is expected to bring in more than 1,800 visitors to Vero Beach for the holiday weekend, including players, coaches and families.

“Lots of families go to the beach between and after games,” Dodgertown Marketing and Communications Director Ruth Ruiz said.

Teams will compete at 8 a.m. through the evening on Saturday and Sunday. Championship games set for Monday will start late Monday morning and will last through the evening, Ruiz said.

Dodgertown, a multi-sports facility, has a half-baseball field used for infield drills. The facility also has a multi-purpose field for warm ups and for other sports training, including football, rugby, soccer and lacrosse.

Teams who booked early have the advantage of staying on the property in one of Dodgertown’s 89 hotel villa rooms. The majority will stay at the facility’s partner hotels, officials said.

Each year, Dodgertown welcomes professional, national team, collegiate, high school and youth teams for games and training for baseball, softball, rugby, football, soccer, lacrosse and water sports land training, according to officials. Teams travel from across the nation, including Alaska and Hawaii, and from around the world to improve their sports skills in a distraction-free environment.

The facility is located at 3901 26th Street, Vero Beach. For more details on the Labor Day bash, visit the Dodgertown website.
