Rededication of the historic 1903 Vero Railroad Station and its updated Exhibit Center will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 9, at 256 Beach St. The ceremony will include remarks from Indian River County Historian Ruth Stanbridge and other local officials, focusing on the significance of the depot’s preservation and its role in the region’s transportation and tourism history. The restored site now includes updated interpretive displays designed to highlight early rail travel and local development, as well as the broader economic impact of the railroad on the growth of Vero Beach and surrounding communities. Vero Beach Museum of Art presents a full day of programming to coincide with the new exhibition, “James Prosek: At Work,” which opens Saturday, July 11, and runs through Oct. 25. The special programming runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday There will be free admission offered all day. Activities include Community Canvas Mural with James Prosek where visitors collaborate with the artist on a large-scale work inspired by Indian River Lagoon wildlife; Sketching in the Gallery, offering materials and guidance from docents for drawing from original artworks; docent-led mini tours of the exhibition; and a children’s studio project titled Colorful Creatures. The exhibition itself features Prosek’s field studies and studio pieces in painting, watercolor and sculpture, emphasizing close observation of the natural world and scientific illustration traditions, along with the artist’s process of translating field observation into finished works. “Storm & Song,” a chamber music concert presented by the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, July 12, at First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach, 520 Royal Palm Blvd. The program features Beethoven’s String Quartet in F major, Op. 59, No. 1, known as the first “Razumovsky” quartet, and Brahms’ String Quartet No. 1 in C minor, Op. 51 No. 1, performed by violinists Joni Roos and Michael de Jesus, violist Yaniv Cohen and cellist David Calhoun. The Beethoven work is noted for expanding the scale and expressive depth of chamber music, while the Brahms quartet reflects a more introspective Romantic style shaped by classical structure and careful thematic development across movements, offering audiences a contrast between outward dramatic expression and inward emotional intensity. Vero Beach Theatre Guild will present multiple July events including the opening of “Cry Baby” on Friday, July 10, at 7:30 p.m., with performances continuing through July 26, and auditions for “Come From Away.” The musical “Cry Baby” is based on the John Waters film and set in 1954 Baltimore. It follows the romance between two teenagers from rival social groups, blending humor and satire with musical numbers that reflect the era’s popular styles. Tickets start at $35, with discounts available for veterans, students and members. Auditions for “Come From Away” will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 13, Tuesday, July 14, and Wednesday, July 15. Auditions are open to performers ages 21 and older. The production is scheduled for Oct. 16 through Nov. 1. The musical depicts the true story of airline passengers diverted to Newfoundland following the Sept. 11 attacks and the community that hosted them. Riverside Theatre’s Comedy Zone will host standup performances featuring headliner Danny Johnson and feature act Seetha the Comic this weekend. Johnson’s act combines observational humor and family-friendly storytelling, while Seetha the Comic brings an international perspective shaped by his background in India and performances across multiple countries, often incorporating cultural commentary and personal anecdotes. Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, July 10, and 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Saturday, July 11.
