The Memorial Day Ceremony on Veterans Memorial Island Sanctuary was a moving tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our country. Hosted by the Military Officers Association of America Indian River Chapter, the observance was a poignant reminder befitting the servicemen and women who gave their lives for the freedoms we enjoy today.

The Vero Beach High School Band infused the morning with patriotic pride, which was accompanied with traditional military honors that included the presentation of the colors, a rifle salute and the tolling of a ship’s bell.

After the ceremonial wreath was laid, keynote speaker Col. Gerry Berry, USMC (ret.), delivered an address that brought to the forefront for those gathered what Memorial Day truly represents.
