The Vero Beach Museum of Art was transformed into a tapestry of culture and philanthropy as guests gathered for the 2026 Gala, themed “From Sea to Shining Sea.”

The evening served as a dual celebration, highlighting the museum’s newest exhibition and the expansion that is reshaping its campus.

Guests were afforded a first look at the American Made: Paintings and Sculpture from the DeMell Jacobsen Collection exhibition, which contains fascinating paintings and sculptures that capture the American spirit through art.

The gala also marked a significant milestone in the museum’s history, its 40th anniversary coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the United States.

Guests first gathered outside, amid a sea of red, white and blue, for al fresco cocktails and American bites from around the country, with a menu that included everything from lobster rolls to hot dogs.

Event chair Hollis Forbes welcomed the crowd with heartfelt gratitude, emphasizing the cultural institution’s deep roots within the community.

“As you can see, exciting things are happening here at the museum. I want to thank everyone who’s here this evening for their past support, for their support this evening, and for their future support,” said Forbes.

She reminded everyone that the museum’s noteworthy exhibitions and the undertaking of its transformation into the Museum in the Garden would not be possible without the support of sponsors, benefactors and supporters.

Forbes also highlighted the museum’s role in the community. She noted that many are surprised to learn about the breadth of the museum’s outreach programs, which include free programming for children, veterans and seniors.

“The museum makes a big difference in the Vero Beach community,” said Forbes.

She commented that last year alone, nearly 40,000 people walked through the museum’s halls, many of whom benefited from these community-focused initiatives.

Brady Roberts, executive director and CEO, said that while the museum is currently celebrating its 40th anniversary, the focus is on the next 40 years. Construction has begun on the new building project that will expand the museum’s footprint and capabilities.

“This is a landmark year for us in many ways,” Roberts said. “We’re celebrating the 250th anniversary of the nation with this beautiful survey of American art, and you’re getting the first glimpse of it tonight.”

Roberts added that the capital campaign is “well on its way,” and that the new building is slated to open in two years.

“Incredible things are happening,” Roberts added, before the John Simon Band struck up a lively tune, playing the crowd into the museum for the dinner provided by Elizabeth D. Kennedy Catering.

The American Made: Paintings and Sculpture from the DeMell Jacobsen Collection, featuring 250 years of artwork by American artists, is on display through June 7.
