SEBASTIAN — A 47-year-old Stuart man was killed Sunday after his motorcycle slammed into the back of a work truck partially parked in the southbound outside lane along U.S. 1. The truck’s emergency lights were activated and flashing before the crash, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

“The driver of (the motorcycle) was weaving in and out of traffic and failed to observe (the truck) partially blocking the outside lane,” troopers said in a statement. “As a result, the front of (the motorcycle) collided with the rear of (the truck).”

The driver of the work truck, a 32-year-old West Palm Beach man, was not hurt. The wreck blocked the southbound lanes along U.S. 1.

The collision involving the 2014 Yamaha Cruiser motorcycle and the 2023 Chevrolet 4500 ACME truck happened shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday, March 1 on southbound U.S. 1, south of County Road 512. The truck was parked halfway on the southbound outside lane and on the shoulder, troopers said.

The truck’s driver was on the outside shoulder picking up construction cones and barrels. The impact from the crash jolted the motorcyclist from the vehicle and into the back of the truck, according to troopers.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.
