Re: Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge 123rd Anniversary Celebration Contact: Tim Glover, Secretary/Treasurer, PICS, [email protected]
The Pelican Island Conservation Society will celebrate the 123rd anniversary of the Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge the weekend of March 20-22, 2026. President Theodore Roosevelt will join us once again to celebrate his establishment of Pelican Island as our nation’s first federal bird sanctuary in 1903, giving birth to the Refuge System.
The weekend begins with President Roosevelt visiting a local school, followed by a public meet and-greet Friday evening, March 20th at the Tiki Bar & Grill in Sebastian. President Roosevelt will be joining us throughout the weekend at the Refuge to greet everyone, as well.
On Saturday, March 21st enjoy an evening sunset wine and cheese cruise with President Roosevelt to Pelican Island, aboard Capt. Hiram’s River King pontoon boat. Reservations are required.
Please join us, along with other environmental and history groups, as we celebrate Pelican Island as our nation’s first National Wildlife Refuge. Visit www.FirstRefuge.org for full details and online reservations, or call 772-202-0697.
